04.28.04 Art is an object but is an object necessarily art. Painting, ceramics, photography it all becomes the same. The novelty has worn off. Worse yet I figured out the trick and there's very little magic involved. Either through my arrogance or boredom I didn't see much use of the objects labeled art. Add some color to the canvas, fire it up in a raku kiln, print on a gelatin paper or a another seamless weld... and don't forget the title (make it something mysterious or even better untitled). Simply put there is art and their is art. Ok there it is the line has been drawn. Now we can proceed with no misunderstanding. I'm an artist. I've always been an artist. Though the nomenclature was always an uncomfortable fit. The word for me was a title that very few had earned. Even in my limited exposure to art I recognized that Warhol was The Warhol... enough said. Fifteen years ago I chose a creative path although fulfilling it still left me empty. What to do? Seek the new. So I sought. What I found was much more then I anticipated. Nothing to surprising. But still more than I planned. I found myself back in clay... once again... though what felt like the first time. I begun losing the reason. More of a justification for letting a material, or anything for that matter, shape the work I produced. The vehicle in which my ideas or concept was translated. My art. I lost the connection to material and it took months before I realize I never really had a connection. For bad and good I was who I am (ok bad grammer... but point made) Everything I was is everything that I am and everything that I can be. Of course that's this the stage... the platform... the diving board that scores me a 10. What about orange? Orange never came off as planned. But it did more than two years of questioning. Art is... Art. There exists art created by artist and their exist art. Artist need and art exist. For what it's worth my favorite color is green.
